So, I wanted to watch Baseball Tonight tonight, but ESPN was showing NASCAR and ESPN2 was showing soccer - and a thought occurred to me: in any other sport when a man foes to the ground screaming and clutching their knee it's a huge deal. It may mean the end of a career, but in soccer it just means they want to draw a foul.
I think this is an overlooked part of the cliched why do americans hate soccer question. We saw Joe Theismann, we saw Bo Jackson. To Americans blowing out a knee is a big deal, something to be commiserated - not something to use as a tactic.
Or maybe I'm just mad I have to wait till the Bumwad 300 is done on ESPN so I can have John Kruk tell me why the Tigers are sweet.
