Facebook opened up user names with semantic URLs last night - don't worry, facebook.com/gaken is spoken for by your humble author - but is it a good idea to rush out and get your name? Or is it even worth it? Anil Dash analyzes the situation - quite humorously too:
June 13, 12:15am: A first wave of "It's alive! Go get your name!" posts go up on various technology blogs, noting that the service is running a little bit slow. None of these posts mention that you can also register a real domain name that you can own, instead of just having another URL on Facebook.
I agree with him about owning your web identity as much as possible, but I think there's no real harm in having a custom name for your Facebook account - if nothing else it makes linking a million times easier.
